If Donald Trump fails to win the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, he will gracefully withdraw and back his opponent. At least, that’s what RNC chair Ronna McDaniel appears to think. On CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday morning, McDaniel attempted to persuade a visibly dubious Dana Bash that the former president would promise to back the ultimate GOP nominee in 2024, whoever that person may be.
According to McDaniel, making such a vow is probably a prerequisite for taking part in any presidential debates that the RNC approves.

Everyone who participates in a debate hosted by the RNC should be able to declare, “I will support the will of the voters and the eventual nominee of our party,” according to McDaniel. Bash then reminded McDaniel of Trump’s earlier this month remarks on the matter.
When asked if he would agree to support the Republican nominee, Trump responded, “That would depend,” to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “I would respond to you in the same manner as I did during the discussion in 2016. Who was the nominee would have to determine that.
So, in the event that the former president declines to sign, are you ready to block him? Asked McDaniel by Bash.
The GOP chair mentioned that Trump had signed the pledge in 2016 and expressed her hope that he would again.
I genuinely believe they will all sign it, McDaniel said. “I believe that voters are very focused on choosing a winner, and they do want to hear people declare, “I’m not going to support this man, I’m not going to support this guy,” during a debate. They should pledge, “I will do all in my power to defeat Joe Biden.” And that include backing the Republican Party’s nominee.
The notion that Donald Trump would be a gracious loser was one that Bash had trouble accepting. You don’t think Donald Trump would simply skip the debate if he had to sign something, can you? Asked Bash.
McDaniel stated, “I believe President Trump would prefer to take the debate stage. It is what he enjoys doing. And I anticipate seeing them all there.
Naturally, making such a commitment and keeping it are two quite different things. It is quite impossible to see Trump conducting campaign speeches for Gov. Ron DeSantis in October 2024, should the governor win the Republican primary. Trump has already accused his main 2024 competitor, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), of pedophilia, among other falsehoods.
