A thief returned a Baby Jesus statue to a Colorado fire station with a note apologizing for their actions.
The Jesus statue had been stolen from the Fort Collins Old Town Square nativity scene on December 17.
The Fort Collins Police Services released a photo of the thief and asked the public for help identifying him.
“This Grinch tried to ruin Christmas by stealing the Baby Jesus from the Old Town Square nativity scene,” the post read.
After the statue was returned, the police department released an update saying, “The Baby Jesus figurine reported stolen from the Old Town Square Nativity scene four days ago was today anonymously dropped off at Poudre Fire Authority Station #1 in Fort Collins, along with an apology note (12/19). No further information has been obtained about the person who swiped the statuette.”
The note promised it would never happen again.
“I am really sorry, I made a dumb mistake in the moment, it won’t happen again,” the note said.
Fox 9 reports, “Some fingers on the statue appeared to be broken off, but it was unclear if the figurine was already damaged prior to the theft.”
A suspect has not been publicly named at the time of publishing.
